The Chemnitz City Council’s 2025 Grant Report has been published. It provides a retrospective overview of all municipal grants awarded to associations, clubs and third parties, categorised by topic and recipient. These grants are funds from the city budget allocated for purposes that are in the public interest.
For example, grants were provided for the experiential education centre in Küchwald, including the Sigmund Jähn Cosmonaut Centre; the running of the Neue Sächsische Galerie; various programmes for children and young people; the running of the ‘Kraftwerk’ socio-cultural centre as well as the Schlingel Film Festival and the youth sports programme via the City Sports Association.
Furthermore, a wide range of support was made available for Chemnitz’s sporting and cultural landscape. Since 2024, the report has not only shown the total grants awarded to the citizens’ platforms, but also the individual projects funded by these platforms, as defined in the grant report.
In total, the report covers more than 28 million euros across some 960 individual initiatives. The main areas of focus are funding for the Youth Welfare Office (€13.1 million), cultural funding (€4.4 million), sports funding (€4.9 million) and specialist funding for youth, social affairs and health (€2.6 million).
