Becoming and being a foster family in Chemnitz

Information session on 9 November, from 4 pm to 6 pm, Moritzhof

On Monday 9 November, from 4 pm to 6 pm, the Youth Welfare Office’s Foster Care Service is hosting an information session on foster families at the Moritzhof, Bahnhofstraße 53.

It is not uncommon for families to find themselves in times of need or crisis, meaning that children can no longer live with their own families. To ensure they can still grow up in a nurturing environment, we need people who are willing to consider taking a foster child into their home on a temporary basis. Being a foster family is a demanding but rewarding role that can have a lasting positive impact on a child’s life.

Currently, the Foster Care Service and Caritas in Chemnitz are supporting 270 foster care placements with 222 foster carers. At the same time, there are 14 outstanding placement requests for children who are to be placed with a foster family.

A distinction is made between full-time foster care for children whose parents are unable to look after and bring up their children themselves for an extended period or permanently, and short-term foster care for children whose parents are unable to provide care for their child for a limited period (for example, due to illness).
