New extension to the partnership school is inaugurated

Invitation for journalists: 15 September, 1.00 pm, Bauhausstraße 16

On Tuesday 15 September at 1.00 pm, Mayor Ralph Burghart will officially open the new extension to the Chemnitz Cooperation School, Brauhausstraße 16.

Media representatives are invited to attend. Access is via the main entrance or via Fritz-Reuter-Straße.

The new extension is a two-storey building constructed on piles, which adds eight classrooms and four group rooms to the school, as well as stairwells and toilet facilities, including an accessible toilet. Access via the courtyard is barrier-free and equipped with a lift, meaning that all floors of the new building and the existing building can be accessed barrier-free from there.

The new extension is part of comprehensive construction works to upgrade the school site on Brauhausstraße for the Chemnitz Cooperative School, after it became financially unfeasible to build a new school building for it at the Planitzwiese site.

In addition to the new extension and the modernisation of the old building, including the outdoor facilities, the third phase will see the outdoor facilities redesigned in accordance with heritage conservation principles. The total cost amounts to approximately 10.6 million euros. The Sächsische Aufbaubank has approved funding of 5.3 million euros.
