On Monday 2 November, the Adult Education Centre is hosting a talk and discussion from 7.00 pm to 8.30 pm on the topic ‘Organ donation – yes or no? What do I need to know to make my decision?’ at TIETZ, classroom 4.07. Dr Gunnar Richter, Head of the Transplant Co-ordinators’ Unit at Chemnitz University Hospital, will focus on the current legal framework as well as key considerations when deciding for or against organ donation. Questions from the audience will also be answered.
Attendance at the event is free of charge. Registration and further information about the event can be found via the event link. The talk will also be streamed online. When registering, please indicate whether you will be attending online.
There is a great deal of ignorance, uncertainty and misinformation amongst the general public regarding organ donation. However, everyone is called upon to make a very personal decision: organ donation – yes or no? The so-called ‘opt-out’ system, which is currently under discussion, has brought the issue back into the spotlight.
Among other things, the following topics will be discussed at the event:
- Brain death: What exactly does this mean and how is brain death determined?
- Who decides whether to consent to or refuse an organ donation?
- Who does what in the process leading up to an organ donation?
- Are age and pre-existing conditions even relevant when it comes to organ donation?
This event is organised in collaboration with Klinikum Chemnitz gGmbH and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
