The drinking fountain at Konkordiapark will now be in continuous operation until the end of August. This is intended to reduce the risk of bacterial contamination – so-called environmental bacteria – which exists at this location due to the length of the pipework. Continuous operation also helps to counteract the problem of contamination – particularly of the spout – caused by users’ inappropriate behaviour.
The continuous flow of water ensures that the drinking water remains fresh and in constant motion, preventing it from warming up due to sunlight and the forecast heat, thereby effectively preventing the growth of bacteria.
Despite the water consumption, this measure saves money, as it eliminates downtime and maintenance periods, as well as the associated higher costs for flushing operations and shut-offs incurred by the water supplier.
The aim is to ensure the public supply of drinking water meets the required quality standards.
The entire drinking water network is regularly and rigorously monitored. The five other drinking fountains in the town can still be used by residents in the usual way, operated manually at the push of a button.
